About our theme

Getting to medicine involves more than academics. Many first-generation and low-income (FGLI) students have to navigate questions that are rarely discussed:

How do you retain your authenticity while finding your place in a new environment? How do you build community as a first-generation student in spaces that may feel unfamiliar? How do you navigate the unwritten rules of medicine that are often passed down from generation to generation?

The 2nd Annual FGLI in Medicine Conference brings together pre-medical students, medical students, and other members of the medical community for conversations about mentorship, professional development, and the experiences that shape the path into medicine.

Through panels, workshops, discussions, and networking opportunities, attendees will hear from individuals who have navigated these challenges themselves while connecting with a broader community committed to supporting FGLI students.
